Associated Press - April 20, 2009 5:15 PM ET

WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) - The prosecutor says a Britton man is jailed on $500,000 bond after an armed standoff with law officers at an abandoned farm near Gary.

It lasted about six hours and ended around 7 a.m. Sunday when the man surrendered.

Deuel County State's Attorney Greg Stoltenburg says 29-year-old Jacob James Stark made some threats and fired shots. He was arrested for attempted murder.

Stoltenburg says he'll file formal charges after reading reports from investigators.

Stark's initial court appearance is scheduled for April 27.
