CLEAR LAKE, S.D. (AP) - A Britton man accused of shooting at two Deuel County sheriff's deputies made his first court appearance Monday in Clear Lake.
Authorities initially charged 29-year-old Jacob James Stark with two counts of attempted murder, but he is now charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer.
Deputies were called to an abandoned farmstead near Gary early in the morning of April 19 on a report of an assault.
The court complaint accuses Stark of firing gunshots after the officers made verbal contact with him.
Stark surrendered peacefully about six hours later and nobody was injured.
He's being held in the Codington County Detention Center in Watertown.
