PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota Attorney General Larry Long has appointed lawyer Onida lawyer Emily Sovell (SUHV'-uhl) to the Open Meeting Commission, a group of 5 state's attorneys who investigate complaints about violations of the state's open meetings law.
Sovell is Sully County state's attorney, Hyde County deputy state's attorney and the city attorney for Onida, Gettysburg, Faulkton, Harrold and Highmore.
Sovell replaces Vaughn Beck of Edmunds County, who has been a member of the commission since it started in 2004.
If the commission finds a violation of the open meetings law, it can issue a public reprimand.
