MULLEN, Neb. (AP) - A tornado spotted in the Sandhills area of western Nebraska ripped off some roofs and knocked down a radio tower.
National Weather Service observer Wynn Wiens says the tornado Tuesday evening damaged a farmstead about 15 miles south of Mullen, in western Nebraska's Hooker County.
No injuries were reported.
Charlie Munn told North Platte radio station KELN/KOOQ that his barn, shop and two storage sheds were damaged. He says the tin roof off 1 of the sheds "was wadded and balled up like it would be if someone squashed a pop can."
He also says a 65-foot-tall radio tower and a windmill were toppled.
Wiens' wife, Crystal, took photos of the tornado. The North Platte Weather Service office posted them at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lbf/?nhoto0512.
