SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Basin Electric Power Cooperative of Bismarck, N.D., has delayed the projected completion date of a $2 billion power plant proposed for the Selby area.
Daryl Hill of Basin Electric says the project has not been scrapped but the timeline is being re-evaluated. The company says the project won't be finished until after 2014.
Hill says the economy and uncertainty over federal regulations concerning carbon emissions are contributing to the delay.
The Selby area was picked last year as the preferred site for the Next-Gen power plant.
