FREMONT, Neb. (AP) - Paul Larsen of Fremont remembers the day in France when a bomb narrowly missed him and his friends as they served with the U.S. Army.
He remembers how much he disliked having to force German families from their homes as the Allies raced across Europe to defeat Hitler and his Nazi forces.
And Larsen still remembers his comrades in arms.
He says he may not have spoken to them for more than 60 years, but they were friends made during times you don't forget.
Larsen says he's proud that he was in the service and could help his adopted country - he and his family immigrated from Denmark. And he thinks his Army stint made him a better person.
