PLATTSMOUTH, Neb. (AP) - A crime-scene investigator accused of mishandling blood evidence in a 2006 double murder case remains free, pending his preliminary hearing in July.
David Kofoed (KOH-fode) was arraigned Wednesday in Cass County Court on one count of evidence tampering in the investigation of the shotgun slayings of Wayne and Sharmon Stock (STOKE) in their farmhouse near Murdock.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison.
His attorney asked that Kofoed remain free, without bail, and the prosecution didn't object.
Kofoed made no statements in or out of the courtroom Wednesday, other than to affirm that he understood the charge against him.
Kofoed already faces a July trial on four federal charges stemming from his handling of the Stock case.
