OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A Fremont telemarketing firm has paid almost $7,000 in civil penalties for violations of child labor laws.
The U.S. Labor Department announced in a news release that Midwest Marketing recently allowed seven 15-year-olds to work until 10 p.m. That violates regulations that permit 14- and 15-year-olds to work no later than 7 p.m. during the school year. The cutoff time is 9 p.m. between June 1 and Labor Day.
A 2004 investigation at the same telemarketing call center found 11 similar violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act's hours-time rule.
