PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - State forester Ray Sowers (SOW'-urs) says campers should avoid bringing firewood from other states into South Dakota's campgrounds.
Sowers says firewood from other states could introduce the emerald ash borer into South Dakota. The emerald ash borer was brought into the United States from China. It has not been found in South Dakota, but was recently discovered in the Minneapolis area.
Sowers says an infestation would be devastating to South Dakota because the state has more than 1 million ash trees.
Sowers says campers should leave wood at home and buy safe firewood at campgrounds.
