PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A former Wolsey minister has lost the second appeal of his conviction for killing his wife while he was having an affair with another woman.
The South Dakota Supreme Court has rejected William Guthrie's request for a new trial.
Guthrie was sentenced to life in prison after he was convicted for killing his wife, Sharon. She died after being found unconscious, drugged and face down in bathtub water in May 1999.
The Supreme Court upheld Guthrie's conviction in his first appeal in 2001. The justices now have rejected Guthrie's second appeal, which argued his trial lawyer was ineffective.
