SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A slow-moving batch of storms spawned reports of funnel clouds, tornadoes, hail and high wind in much of eastern South Dakota Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The National Weather Service listed about a dozen separate storm reports involving tornado sightings, although several reports documented the same twisters.
The storms exited the state in the Vermillion and Yankton areas around 9:30 p.m. Little damage was immediately reported.
One prolonged tornado sighting was in the Menno area. Tree damage was reported, and some power lines were down in Menno due to the storm, which moved through shortly after 7:30.
Dozens of reports of large hail were filed, and more than 3 inches of rain was reported in the Aberdeen area of northeast South Dakota earlier in the day.
