LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A judge has ordered a former University of Nebraska regent to pay more than $3,500 to a state campaign finance commission.
Lancaster County District Judge Steven Burns issued his ruling in a lawsuit the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission filed against Robert Prokop of Wilber. In the lawsuit, the commission said Prokop failed to pay $3,575 in fines from his 2006 candidacy for the Board of Regents.
The commission fined Prokop because he was late filing a contribution statement and other paperwork.
Prokop had argued the commission didn't have the authority to assess late fees and that the fees weren't properly calculated.
Prokop served on the Regents Board in the 1970s and 1980s, but has run unsuccessfully several times since then.
