STANTON, Neb. (AP) - A Norfolk man has died from exposure to unknown gasses in an underground grain pit in Stanton.
Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger says 67-year-old Donald Stodola was found dead Friday inside the grain pit at the Stanton Co-Op.
Unger says authorities believe a toxic gas accumulated inside the enclosed pit, killing Stodola and sickening another employee, 58-year-old Gary Carson. Carson was found semiconscious and was taken to a Norfolk hospital in critical condition.
Unger says an autopsy will be conducted Saturday in Omaha on Stodola's body.
Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
