BASSETT, Neb. (AP) - The hard faces many ranchers wear to work every day along with cowboy boots are starting to show some cracks.
While ranchers in Rock County, Neb., say they are confident their herds won't be decimated by tuberculosis, some are concerned the scare could hurt the market for their cattle.
Rancher Neil Ammon (AH-mun) owns 1 of the 42 cow herds that have been quarantined as state officials try to determine whether the bovine TB outbreak has spread beyond the two cases found last month.
Ammon says he recently met with bankers to ask how the quarantine might affect his finances. He says all they did was shrug - "it was just a blank look."
Veterinarians are testing animals in 10 Nebraska counties, which could take months.
