NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska State Patrol is investigating after a sheriff's deputy shot a man he says threatened him with a sword.
The patrol says 26-year-old Robbin Gastineau of rural Hershey and North Platte was pronounced dead at the scene early Saturday.
The incident began around 1:45 a.m. when someone from a rural Hershey home called 911 but didn't say anything before the call disconnected.
A Lincoln County sheriff's deputy was sent to the home, where he says he found a domestic violence incident. He forced his way into the home and tried to subdue Gastineau by using a Taser, but it didn't work.
The deputy said Gastineau threatened him with a "decorative-type" sword. The deputy fired two shots, striking Gastineau.
An autopsy is set for Monday.
