PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota officials say people should leave their fireworks at home when they visit state parks and recreation areas over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
State Parks Director Doug Hofer (HOH'-fer) says it's illegal to discharge fireworks in state parks, recreation areas, lakeside use areas, nature areas and other land owned or leased by the Game, Fish and Parks Department. It's also illegal to discharge fireworks in the Black Hills forest fire protection district, national forests and national parks in South Dakota.
Hofer says many people visit parks during the July Fourth weekend, so it would be dangerous to shoot fireworks there.
