WOONSOCKET, S.D. (AP) - A Woonsocket man has captured a "Best in the World" award from this year's World Taxidermy Championships.
John Schmidt won the division with a 33-pound sneaking bobcat in the tournament's live sculpting contest. The sculptors had 22 hours to complete their forms during the show, which was held in May in St. Charles, Mo.
Now, Schmidt is preparing life-size sculptures to enter in the National Taxidermy Association competition in two weeks in Huntsville, Ala.
At last year's nationals, Schmidt won a best in show for a life-size leaping coyote. He also has won the judges best of show award numerous times.
