RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A 20-year-old Wanblee woman will serve just over three years in prison for driving drunk, speeding and causing an accident that killed a 5-month-old baby who was not in a car seat.
Jolene Chief Bear earlier pleaded guilty in federal court in Rapid City to involuntary manslaughter, which carries a maximum punishment of 8 years in prison.
She was sentenced to 37 months in prison.
The accident happened Oct. 22 near Wanblee on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
Court documents do not include the name of the baby or the relationship to Chief Bear.
