RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Federal grand jurors in Rapid City have indicted two men from Washington state on charges of transporting methamphetamine in South Dakota.
Fidel Diaz and Francisco Garcia pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and intent to distribute a controlled substance.
According to a court document, a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper pulled them over July 10 on Interstate 90 near New Underwood for following a vehicle too close.
The trooper says the men told conflicting stories and were nervous, so he had his drug dog check the vehicle and the search yielded about 8 pounds of meth hidden in a compartment.
If convicted, Diaz and Garcia face at least 10 years and up to life in prison.
