Neb. student wins $25,000 on 'Millionaire'

Associated Press - August 10, 2009 10:25 AM ET

ALLIANCE, Neb. (AP) - An Omaha college student's dreams of winning $1 million on ABC's "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" didn't quite pan out - but $25,000 isn't bad.

That's how much Alliance native and Creighton University student Rob Placek won on the game show, which aired Sunday night as a 10th anniversary special.

The 19-year-old Placek participated in the taping of the program in New York on July 30. His contract obligations forced him to keep mum about his $25,000 in winnings until after the program aired.

Placek says he plans to use his winnings to help pay for college.
