Food draws fans to the Clay County, IA fair

SPENCER, Iowa (KTIV) - The 92nd Annual Clay County Fair is underway in Spencer, Iowa. Everyone has their favorite part, but most agree they love the food!

Everyone always looks forward to the treats that tempt their tastebuds. This year, the Clay County Fair didn't dissapoint. Even the pickiest eaters can find fair food to fill their tummies. And... most of it comes on a stick. Cayla Westergard, Urbandale, IA, says, "Along with the fair, you think of food on a stick so why not have an egg on a stick?"

The Iowa egg council wants to start a new health trend, hoping to pass out 25,000 incredible edibles over the week. But for some, coming to the fair, there is one essential ingredient. Nate McEwen, Spencer, IA, says, "I'd say it's the grease. Has to be the grease, there's just something in the grease that makes the food tasty."

Carol Domino, Sac City, IA, says, "A funnel cake, and pork sandwiches, and right now I've got a hot dog with potatoes." And of course, donuts, kettle corn, and franks are always in high demand, but others couldn't avoid some of the great smells right from the kitchen. Jodi Boyd, Hartley, IA, says, "There is some good home cooked food down here. A few fried foods, but the home cooked foods you can get at some of the stands around here is pretty delicious."
