VERMILLION, S.D. (KTIV) - For those of you who remember college life, you likely remember classes, the campus, and the sometimes dreaded dormitory.
Now, instead of a bedroom you share with a roommate, and a bathroom you share with entire floor, imagine a nice new apartment like setting equipped with a kitchen, private bath, and tanning booths.
That's exactly what the folks at the University of South Dakota have planned.
And like that, construction on a new way of student living is underway on the University of South Dakota. But look closely and you'll see the new apartment like residence hall is actually already under construction.
"Students are demanding more and more out of their housing and there are more off campus opportunities and the amenities keep growing higher and higher and this is an effort to bring more and more students back on campus," said Curt Fowler, V.P.Ambling University Development Group.
When it's finished, the 26-point-8 million dollar residence hall will boast 175 living areas with room for 550 students.
"This is a great day for us because these are going to be great apartment like living situations for students, said USD President James Abbott.
But what really sets The U's "Coyote Village" out in front of the pack are all the amenities it has to offer.
"Gaming centers, lounges, lobbies, laundry facilities, and even tanning booths," said Fowler.
They're more like an apartment than a dorm so they'll also have kitchens, private baths, wireless internet and a convenience store. Monthly costs for students will range from 453 dollars to 658. Officials say the location can't be beat.
"This is going to be a premier location. Across the street from the Dakota Dome and down from the new University student center," said Richard Van Den Hul, USD V.P. of Finance and Administration.
And in a time of economic hardship, officials at USD know how important it is to feel like you're at home when your away at college.
"Even though times are tough are there, we're going to do the best we can for our students," said Abbott.
There will also be 700 new parking spots for students at Coyote Village.
It's set to be open for students for fall of next year.
