Many areas of the downtown area along I-29, will be changing and improved as part of the project. The Floyd Boulevard exit along I-29, will open up and be improved as will the Hamilton Boulevard Exit. The tunnel across from Chris Larsen Park will disappear, and the area will open up dramatically.
"It's pretty straight forward stuff for the area," said Iowa Department of Transportation Spokesperson Dakin Schultz.
There's something missing, the asthetics. A local committee made up of professionals said they'd like to incorporate Sioux City architecture into the project.
"What features they'd like to see, what's important as far as highlighting the area," said Schultz.
"A lot of the brick, building appearances, and other prominent features," said Schultz.
Some areas will be enhanced with lighting at night. Like the area near Gordon Drive, and in the Wesley Parkway portion of the project.
Crews are working on the Riverside Exit portion of the project now. The next they'll work on is the Sergeant Bluff area. The downtown area will be last in the reconstruction project.
