BIG STONE CITY, S.D. (AP) - Officials in Big Stone City say they're disappointed with Otter Tail Power Co.'s decision to pull out of its lead role in construction of a $1.6 billion coal-fired power plant.
Plans were under way for a new housing development, and other work was being done to accommodate what would be a huge influx of people over the 5-year construction period for the plant.
Big Stone City Mayor Deb Wilk says she was surprised and disappointed, and it seems like a waste after all the time and work people put into it.
Wilk says some related projects will go forward.
A housing development on bluffs overlooking Big Stone Lake will be built, she said, and renovations at the city-owned liquor store and community center will also be completed.
