KIMBALL, Neb. (AP) - A former treasurer of a Kimball church has pleaded no contest to stealing tens of thousands of dollars from church accounts.

Forty-8-year-old Nancy Novotny of Bushnell entered her plea this week in Kimball County District Court on a felony theft charge after striking a deal with prosecutors.

Special prosecutor Paul Schaub has agreed to recommend probation and Novotny has agreed to pay more than $21,000 in restitution.

The Rev. Roger Gillming with Trinity United Methodist Church contacted the Nebraska State Patrol in April. He said Novotny told a church committee that she'd been taking money from the church since June 2006, but had repaid most of it.

Investigators alleged Novotny stole nearly $33,000.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 15.
