Drugmakers to pay South Dakota in settlement

Associated Press - October 22, 2009 6:25 PM ET

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - South Dakota will get a cut of $124 million being paid out nationwide by four pharmaceutical companies accused of submitting false claims to Medicaid.

As part of the settlement, South Dakota will recover $115,000.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says Mylan Pharmaceuticals, UDL Laboratories, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP and Ortho McNeil Pharmaceuticals didn't pay appropriate rebates for drugs that were paid for by Medicaid.

Medicaid is a federal health program for eligible individuals and families with low incomes and resources.
