AMES, Iowa (AP) - A Jefferson woman has been charged with first-degree theft for allegedly bilking her employer out $10,000 through fraudulent returns

Police allege Ashley Phillips, an employee at Theisen's in Ames, made more than $10,000 in fraudulent returns to the store between June 2008 and August 2009. Phillips allegedly took money for the returns out of the cash register, but no merchandise was returned to the store.

According to police, the 25-year-old Phillips was arrested after Theisen's management provided police with documentation of the theft.

Phillips was held in the Story County Jail until she posted $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for Nov. 5, in Nevada.
