NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) - Northeast Nebraskans were given a chance Thursday night to learn more about getting their voices heard when it comes to health care.
The Nebraska Appleseed organization and the Center For Rural Affairs sponsored the informational forum at the Lifelong Learning Center in Norfolk.
Attendees learned how to contact key policymakers on Capitol Hill through direct contact, writing letters and other ways to make their opinions known. They also discussed what health care needs are important to their community and to their family.
Appleseed leaders say everyone has a health related story, and Legislators need to hear how they've been affected. "They have a premium they can't afford, they're not getting coverage for a pre-existing condition, they've got a friend who is in medical debt as a result of some illness. It really just seems that there really isn't anybody who hasn't been touched by this," said Jennifer Carter, Nebraska Appleseed Organization.
Similar events have already been held in Omaha, Lincoln and Beatrice. Organizers say more are in the works in western Nebraska.
