SIBLEY, Iowa (KTIV) -- Fire damaged a home in Sibley, Iowa Thursday afternoon.
The Sibley Fire Chief Ken Huls says that the fire started in a nearby garage when gasoline ignited and the flames were blown to the house at 5851 180th Street. The fire has been ruled an accident. Huls says the damage is estimated at $150,000-$200,000.
Firefighters arrived just after one in the afternoon, Thursday. Huls says they had the fire contained in three hours and spent another hour checking for hot spots.
Red Cross officials say the family of four living in the house are receiving help from the Red Cross. The house was being rented to Kally Southard, her boyfriend and her 17- and 14-year-old sons.
No one was injured in the fire, though Huls says that a couple of firefighters were treated and released after they slipped on some wet steps outside the home.
Sibley Fire Chief Huls says that firefighters were able to utilize their thermal imaging tool to help limit the damage to the house. The fire department purchased the thermal imager two years ago for $9,000.
Fire crews from Melvin, Ashton and Ocheydan, Iowa helped with manpower and water. The Osceola Sheriff's department was also there.
