BROKEN BOW, Neb. (AP) - A 29-year-old Broken Bow man who shot an apartment neighbor has been given 2 to 3 years in a Nebraska prison.
After a deal with prosecutors, Winfield Copley III had pleaded no contest to first-degree assault. Two other charges were dropped.
Copley was sentenced on Thursday in Custer County District Court. Court documents say the judge gave Copley credit for 388 days he's already spent in jail awaiting trial.
Authorities say Copley used a rifle to shoot Rick Arellano in the chest. The two had argued throughout the day on Oct. 14, 2008, at their apartment building.
Arellano survived after emergency surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
