OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The May primary is getting more interesting as another Democrat announces her plan to run for Nebraska secretary of state.
Janet Stewart of Fremont says she is getting a committee together for a run.
Steward is an attorney who ran for Nebraska's 1st District Congressional seat in 2004, losing to Republican Jeff Fortenberry.
Stewart says she wants to promote Nebraska business nationally and internationally as secretary of state.
She will face fellow Democrat Kris Pierce in the primary.
Republican John Gale is the current Nebraska secretary of state, and he plans to seek re-election.
The secretary of state's office oversees elections, state records, business registry services and occupational licensing, among other duties.
