SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - What a difference two weeks make. October's rainy weather put construction to a halt... pushing street projects like this one on South Martha, which was already off schedule, even farther behind. Crews are now taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather, working aggressively to finish major road work before winter hits. After a five month closure, South Martha will reopen next week along with the final phase of Military Road. Scott Logan, Engineer: "We need those streets to move traffic safely through the community. These are major streets. They carry five to ten, 15,000 vehicles per day, and we would not want to detour traffic through the winter periods." Paving on the Outer Drive project will be done rather quickly as well. But, the connector won't immediately be open to traffic. "They still have to do a lot of work, and they have to do the work on the pavement. If there's traffic on Outer Belt Drive while they do the work, there's a lot of hazards." Still, Logan says that while the project isn't scheduled to be finished until Spring of 20-10... crews have been making up time, working six to seven days a week to get it done early. We could be driving on it before New Years... if there's no snow.
