FREMONT, Neb. (AP) - Organizers of a Fremont campaign are inviting the community to dance in celebration of culture and unity.
A dinner and a dance are set for Saturday in Fremont as part of the local Nebraska Is Home campaign. Authentic Mexican food is on the menu and volunteers will be on hand to teach dances from the polka to the salsa. Organizers are asking for a $10 donation at the door.
The campaign launched in Fremont earlier this year, amid an ongoing debate about how the city should address illegal immigration.
The campaign recognizes the contributions of immigrants. It uses posters and billboards to spread messages of shared values among diverse groups. It also organizes events to help residents get to know their neighbors.
