National Forest Christmas tree permits available

Associated Press - November 13, 2009 6:15 AM ET

CUSTER, S.D. (AP) - Starting Monday, tags will be available for sale at most Black Hills Forest Service offices in western South Dakota and northeast Wyoming so people can cut their own fresh Christmas trees.

The Forest Service says the tags also will be available within the next week at several vendor locations in the Black Hills area.

Officials say white spruce, ponderosa pine and western juniper are available and can be cut in many parts of the forest. The maximum height of cut trees is 20 feet.

Each tree costs $10.
