SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) -- Some local 8th graders got out of class today, for a good cause.
About 90 8th graders from East, West and South Sioux City middle schools gathered at the Long Lines Family Rec. Center today for a leadership summit.
Tomorrow 8th graders from North, Bishop Heelan and Sergeant Bluff will go through the same program.
The event is meant to promote leadership and team building among local students, the future of the community.
"We really feel like this group of young individuals really culminate the community that is up and coming as well as future military members and active participants in our community," said 185th Wing Executive Officer Noelle Jacobs.
The day started off with a motivational pep talk by metro area high school students, and then volunteers from the 185th Air Guard walked the students through some fun team building activities.
