SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A Chicago poet who earned a bronze star in Vietnam will speak at Augustana College in Sioux Falls on Monday.
Jim Fairhall served in the 101st Airborne and speaks Vietnamese. His works include perspective from what he knew in 1970, and what he knows now.
The New York City native is married to a Vietnamese woman and often returns to the country. He teaches modern literature at DePaul University in Chicago, where he is director of the Irish studies program.
Augustana English professor Patrick Hicks calls Fairhall's work compelling and powerful, and says it's a story of war and peace and understanding.
The reading begins at 7 p.m. in Center for Visual Arts atrium.
