
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - This weekend, a Northeast Nebraska truck driver lost his life in a crash on Highway 12.
Fifty-nine-year-old Vernon Nelson of Jackson, died when his semi overturned in a ditch and burst into flames.
Injured in the crash, 26 year old Matthew Sandess of Ponca and three children. Sandness is listed in fair condition at Sioux City's Mercy Medical Center.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, just before 1:30 Saturday afternoon, Sandness was traveling on Highway 12, near Ponca, when he crossed the center line, and hit the driver's side of Nelson's truck.
The truck ricocheted off a guardrail, traveling across the highway, and then overturned in a ditch. An investigation into the cause of this crash is ongoing.
