DENISON, Iowa (KTIV) - A recount shows that Denison, Iowa's mayor has been voted out of office. But, the "official" outcome will end up being decided by the courts.
In the general election... Mayor Nathan Marht lost the race by four votes to Dennis Fineran. A recount requested by Marht didn't do much to change the number.
He gained only one vote.
Mahrt has contested the race claiming illegal votes were received or legal votes were rejected.
The Secretary of state's office says it's pretty rare for a city election to be contested. Unless the courts decide otherwise... Fineran will be sworn in as Mayor on January first.
