MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) - A former Plankinton man serving 55 years in prison for raping a 13-year-old Aurora County girl has been given more time behind bars.
A judge sentenced 23-year-old Ernest Fisher Jr. to 10 years with half of it suspended for coercing a Davison County jail inmate to write an affidavit saying the victim had lied at Fisher's trial.
A jury convicted Fisher of 5 counts of third-degree rape, one count of first-degree rape and two counts of sexual contact with a child under age 16 in September 2008. The new sentence will postpone Fisher's parole eligibility date by two years, to May 2046.
The inmate who wrote the phony affidavit, 20-year-old Tyler Dobras of Mitchell, earlier pleaded guilty to felony perjury and was given a 1-year sentence.
