OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A 32-year-old man from Gering who failed to register as a convicted sex offender has been sentenced to 21 months in federal prison.
A news release from Nebraska's U.S. attorney's office says Christopher Jones was sentenced on Friday by U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Kopf.
In addition to the prison term, Jones was ordered to serve five years of supervised release and pay a $100 fine.
Jones was convicted in Iowa in 1996 of assault with the intent to commit sexual abuse. Authorities say that late last year, he traveled to Nebraska and failed to register. He had pleaded guilty to the charge.
