NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (AP) - A man convicted of throwing a fatal punch in a racially charged bar fight has been given 180 days in Lincoln County jail.
On Monday, 39-year-old Amiria Braka Matlock was also sentenced to five years' probation and ordered to pay $500 a month restitution to his victim's family.
Matlock originally was charged with manslaughter for the fight in March 2008. Matlock later pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree assault.
Witnesses say 38-year-old Greg Styles had been making racial comments about Matlock. Styles was white; Matlock is black. Both had been drinking.
Matlock punched Styles, who fell to the floor and injured his head. He died three days later.
