State Patrol uses 'eye in the sky' to keep tabs on fire

Posted:

Norfolk, Neb. (KTIV) - Authorities kept tabs on the fire at Norfolk's former Protient plant from the air.

The Nebraska State Patrol called in their helicopter from Lincoln. It has a camera which can also be turned to an infra-red setting which tracks heat.

They can stream real time video from the helicopter to their command post. Authorities say it's a safe option in a dangerous situation.

"They can get a life close up, feed of exactly what's happening without having to put people or assets in danger," said Nebraska State Patrol Captain Brad Rice.

The helicopter can carry two pilots and five passengers
