WASHINGTON (AP) - South Dakota's congressional delegation is pushing for strong federal funding of 2 projects the delegation deems critical.
Sens. Tim Johnson and John Thune and U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin met Monday with Peter Orszag, director of the federal Office of Management and Budget. At issue is 2011 funding for the Lewis and Clark and Mni Wiconi (MIH'-nee wuh-CHOH'-nee) water systems, which are under construction.
Appropriations for the projects have drawn lawmakers' focus in recent years.
The lawmakers say completing the drinking water systems will help strengthen the state's economy and improve quality of life.
