Neb. power company reports outages in 7 towns

Associated Press - December 25, 2009 11:55 AM ET

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska Public Power District crews are working to restore power outages caused by the blizzard hitting the country's midsection.

Some 3,600 NPPD customers in seven communities lost power at various times Thursday night and Friday morning. All but 2 of the communities have had power restored as of midmorning.

Restoration efforts continue in Craig, where 122 customers are out of service, and in Milford, where another 965 are awaiting power.

The communities of Bassett, Long Pine, Atkinson, Oakland and Oakdale also were without power for periods of time but now have service.

Tom Kent is NPPD's transmission and distribution manager. He said icy roadways and tough working conditions are making it difficult for line crews to respond to outages.
