WINFRED, S.D. (AP) - Investigators have concluded that a fire which destroyed a building at a beeswax purification plant in Winfred was accidental and resulted from solvent that vaporized and ignited.
Madison Fire Chief Jerry Johnson said the solvent is used to purify wax which is used later to produce cosmetics and candles.
The Sept. 28 fire at A.H. Meyer & Sons was the third fire since 1990 in a building where the wax purification process takes place.
About 40 firefighters from the Madison and Howard fire departments spent more than two hours fighting the fire.
