George, IA man arrested for hospital bathroom 'peepholes'

Posted:

UNDATED (KTIV) - A George, Iowa man is accused of spying on women through peepholes in the bathroom of the hospital where he worked.

John D. Elias, 55, was arrested this week and charged with invasion of privacy, third degree theft and tampering with evidence.

After the peepholes were discovered in the ducts or bathroom vents at the Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids, the Lyon County Sheriff says a camera was set up in a back area to catch the suspect in the act.

Authorities say Elias, a hospital employee, discovered the camera, stole it and tried to destroy it.

The camera was recovered. Elias is out on bond.
