Sioux City students recreate a piece of the past

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KTIV) - Sioux City is full of history and Sunday, a lot of it was on display for the 19th annual Sioux City History Projects Exhibition.

About 90 projects were picked from over 800 to be displayed at the Sioux City Public Museum.

Projects ranged from the War Eagle and Floyd Monuments to the Tyson Event Center.

Kids weren't the only ones learning about the past today, though.

Steve Hansen, Museum Director said, "I think it's important for everybody to learn about history. Like the story, if you don't learn from the mistakes of the past, you're destined to repeat them again. A lot of people just don't understand Sioux City and all the cool and unique things that have gone on."

Not only was the project a learning experience for the youngsters.

They got to have some fun too.

James Page, fourth grader said, "I had to use a bunch of tools like a table saw and exacto knife. I did it when my Mom wasn't watching."

All of the students also got a certificate from the museum recognizing their projects.
