Iowans give hero's welcome to Medal of Honor recipient
DES MOINES, Iowa (KTIV) -- Medal of Honor recipient Army Staff Sergeant Salvatore Guinta receives a hero's welcome back home in Iowa.
Tuesday was designated as "Staff Sgt. Salvatore Guinta Day" in Iowa.
During a ceremony, the 25-year-old was given an encased Iowa Flag.
Guinta stepped into the line of fire to help two comrades on the battlefield in Afghanistan.
"I think so much of what we strive to do now is just simply fill the shoes of the men and women who have walked before us and have shown us the path of what right looks like and follow me. Those words and this state have made me who I am," said Staff Sgt. Salvatore Guinta.
there will be a welcome home parade in Giunta's hometown of Hiawatha Tuesday evening.
