
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - A burning fence in Grand Island has destroyed two mobile homes on either side of it. The fire was reported Thursday. When firefighters arrived, they found a fence ablaze between two mobile homes, which spread to the two trailers. People living in the two homes managed to escape.
HOT SPRING, S.D. (AP) - An emergency drill in Hot Springs, South Dakota has outraged opponents of the Keystone XL pipeline and a proposed uranium mine after it portrayed activist groups as domestic terrorists. The Hot Springs School District practiced a lockdown May 14th after pretending to receive a letter from a group promising destruction unless the projects were stopped.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Nebraska students showed improvement in this year's statewide writing proficiency test. Nebraska Education Commissioner Roger Breed announced yesterday that 66% of 8th graders met or exceeded state standards, a 2% increase over the previous year. Breed says this weekend that 68% of 11th graders met or exceeded standards, a 6% increase from last year.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Kickoff for Nebraska's game against Iowa on the day after Thanksgiving has been set for 11 a.m. Central time. ABC will televise the game at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln. Kickoff times for three other Nebraska home games also have been set.
