LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - More and more people have been buying new license plates that proclaim Nebraska is "The Beef State." The Department of Motor Vehicles began printing the special slogan plates last month after 500 people applied for them, exceeding the threshold for production to begin. Administrator Betty Johnson says that as of yesterday morning, another 118 plates had been sold.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A 49-year-old California man has been sentenced to prison in Nebraska for hauling marijuana into the state. Julio Sanchez was given two to four years in prison yesterday after pleading no contest to attempted possession of controlled substances for sale. Authorities say 730 pounds of pot was found last November in boxes of produce found inside a semitrailer driven by Sanchez.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The state treasurer is reminding Nebraska businesses and organizations of the November 1st deadline for remitting unclaimed property to the state. Treasurer Don Stenberg says businesses and organizations must also submit unclaimed property reports by November 1st. State law requires a business or organization to file report with the Unclaimed Property Division if the total value of the unclaimed property is greater than $10.
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) - Judge James Livingston has announced his intention to retire from the 9th Judicial District Court. Livingston intends to retire on October 1st. The Judicial Resources Commission will be calling a meeting to determine whether the judgeship must remain in the 9th District or be moved elsewhere.
