Al Joens - KTIV News 4 Sioux City IA: News, Weather and Sports

Anchor

Al Joens

I call Manilla, Iowa my hometown.  I grew up on a farm there, but in my younger years, I also lived in Houston, Los Angeles and New Orleans as my father's job kept us moving around the country.

I joined KTIV as a reporter after graduating from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake in 1985. Over the years, I've served as anchor of the weekend, noon, morning and evening newscasts.

Among the accomplishments of which I am most proud in my years at KTIV is the Emmy Award that our noon newscast won in 2009 and winning 1st place in the Feature Reporting category in the Iowa Broadcast News Association competition five years in a row.

In 2008, I married KTIV coworker, Melissa Lanzourakis.  She now works for the city of Sioux City.  Together, we enjoy the occasional bicycle ride through the Siouxland countryside.  I've managed to get her hooked on RAGBRAI and we rode our tandem all the way across Iowa in 2010.  We also keep busy with my three teenage children Philip, Rachel and Kevin.

My address is:  ajoens@ktiv.com
